You may think of Bermuda as small, but the Dining & Nightlife options are far from limited. If you’re in the mood for local flavor, you’ll find favorites like Bermuda rockfish and spiny Bermuda lobster, as well as the ever-popular Rum Swizzle at every corner. Don’t leave without sampling dishes from pubs, family restaurants, trendy tapas bars, and fine restaurants alike. When dinner’s over and you’re ready for some evening entertainment, take advantage of the after-hours establishments that satisfy every thirst. Whether you’re looking for a dance floor or a cozy bar, you’re guaranteed to have a good time.
Gourmet to Pub Grub...Bermuda has something for everyone’s taste buds.
For a night of good food and fun, try the Docksider Pub where wraps, burgers, sandwiches, fresh Bermuda fish and much more are available from the kitchen 7 days a week from 11 am to 9:30 pm. Great pub food like fish and chips and shepherd’s pie all washed down with a frothy beer sounds good, doesn’t it? The atmosphere is fun; there’s a long cedar bar which is often occupied by locals (so you know it’s good) and it’s a great place to stop in and grab some lunch after a morning of shopping. For men who might not be big shoppers, it’s the perfect place to wait, grab a bite to eat, and keep up with your favorite teams while your significant other hits the shops. The Docksider Pub is the spot for lunch, a casual dinner, and even an all day English breakfast that they serve on the weekends. Located in Hamilton on Front Street (441.296.3333).
What sets Portofino apart and what makes this dining establishment special, aside from the spectacular food, is the alluring atmosphere. The aura here delightfully drips with fun. The staff is friendly and the crowd is casual. “We are very family oriented. We treat everyone just like an Italian grandmother would. Laughter fills the air and the excitement is palpable. It’s a wonderful experience—the first time and every time thereafter. Located at 20 Bermudian Road, Hamilton. (441.292.2375).
The Bermuda Bistro
The Bermuda Bistro is where you want to be for breakfast, lunch, or dinner if you’re looking for great bistro food. They serve innovative salads like the Govenors Salad (an 8 oz grilled Strip Steak layered with blue cheese on a crisp house salad) or the Teriyaki Tuna Salad (a tower of large skewers of saku tuna served on a mesculin salad topped with a teriyaki glaze), gourmet burgers (try the Portly Gentleman, a 6oz chicken breast, sliced chourico, and swiss cheese), seafood, pizza and bar snacks like Bistro Platter, a combo of tenders, wings, mozzarella sticks, fries and onion rings––all served until midnight. Don’t go to the Bermuda Bistro without trying one of their famous exotic island cocktails or eclectic martinis. They serve drinks until 3:00 a.m. and they’re open 7 days a week. Located in Hamilton on Front Street. (441.292.0219).
Rum runs in our veins...You can’t experience the real Bermuda without going out at night
The Bermuda Bistro
Our first stop was classic, classic, classic – and now we head to the Bermuda Bistro at the Beach with a newly constructed drink/spirit menu featuring exotic island cocktails, fabulous frozen drinks, eclectic martinis, frothy European draughts, U.S. domestic bottled beers as well as European imported bottle beers. But let’s not forget why we’re here….rum.
So we picked…..
1 oz. Gold Rum
2 oz. Pineapple Juice
2 oz. Orange Juice
1/2 oz. Grenadine
Dash Lime Juice
Method: Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice
Mix well and strain into a chilled Collins glass filled with crushed ice.
Garnish: a lime squeeze.
The name, yes, is a little edgy but then again if you’re hanging late night at Snorkel Park it just works. Dancing on the Beach fully entrenched in the famed Bermuda Nightlife Scene – this is your drink and our last rum recommendation for the tour. “Between The Sheets” – a saucy mix of three spirits, perfect to sip on or take as a shot. But honestly for something this delicious, a shot might just be a sin. If your bartender scratches their head when you order this…take it upon yourself to do some teaching – bartenders love to learn new drinks and a drink with a name like this is sure to be a hit.
Between The Sheets
1 oz. Cognac or Brandy
1 oz. Cointreau or Triple Sec
1 oz. Light Rum
1 oz. Lemon or Lime Juice
Method: Combine ingredients in a shaker with cracked ice
Shake well and strain into a cocktail glass.
Garnish: a lemon twist.
Known for having one of the best wine lists in Bermuda – Fresco’s really is a place to sip and taste a little of everything. But don’t be fooled, it’s also a perfect place to tuck in and have one of the most delicious and classic Dark & Stormy’s. The Dark & Stormy is actually a registered trademark of Gosling’s Rum. It’s good that we LOVE Gosling’s…we’d have to say that a Dark & Stormy really isn’t right unless made with Gosling’s Black Seal Rum and Stormy Ginger Beer. A simple drink all in all, but one that has stood the test of time and many would say is coming into a second wave of popularity. We can’t get enough of these and we’re positive you’ll feel the same.
Classic Dark & Stormy
1.5 oz Gosling’s Black Seal Rum
Gosling’s Stormy Ginger Beer
Method: In a tall glass filled with ice add 4 - 5 oz of Gosling’s Stormy Ginger Beer and top with Gosling’s Black Seal Rum. Garnish with a lime wedge (optional). Gosling’s Black Seal Rum’s “Signature Drink”..
